Don't borrow money to pay for Gillette Stadium parking!

LAST UPDATED ON AUG. 27, 2023 AT 8:14 AM

Of all NFL fan expenses, a Gillette Stadium parking pass is easily the most overinflated.

The median cheapest available parking for a New England Patriots game is $319 this season.

Indeed, that figure is 169% over the league average, as well as $119 more than last season.

To emphasize, here’s some added perspective – Gillette Stadium parking can easily cost as much, or even more, than an iPad:

iPad Model PriceParking Cost (location)
iPad (32 GB) $329 $315 (Lot 20)
10.5-inch iPad Pro (64 GB) $649$707 (Club West)
12.9-inch iPad Pro (512 GB) $1149$1103 (Club East)

Incidentally, there isn’t an iPad (yet) that’s this expensive:

The Brady effect?

Generally speaking, success, and the presence of an iconic player has a lot to do with a team’s ticket and parking prices. Well, it’s been 3 years since a certain QB departed, and the Pats record since then is a mediocre 17-16.

In spite of this, the cost of a Gillette Stadium parking pass on the secondary market is still the highest in the league.

So, while it’s not quite as high as B.B. (before Brady), that number is still tops, and over 1.5 times the current average.

But given the current state of the team, the value score for Patriots parking in 2022 is 9. That figure is tied for 4th-worst, ahead of only Cleveland, Detroit, & Jacksonville, 3 teams that usually aren’t mentioned in the same breath as the Pats.

How to save money on Gillette Stadium parking

New England Patriots on-site parking

As you can see, official on-site parking for a Pats game at Gillette can be absurdly expensive. By the same token, resale prices can also be absurdly erratic.

To clarify, here are the cheapest listings from 12 ticket sites for the Oct. 24 game vs. the NY Jets:

$125$54$591$564$65$694$117$81$113$78$515$100

Prices were recorded on 9/12 at 11:39 am & include all fees

How to account for huge disparity in price?

Markedly, there are more than 25 official Gillette Stadium parking lots, ticket resellers can only get ahold of so many, and for certain lots. So in the above table, the $500+ listings are for Club East & Club West parking, while those in the $100 range are for Lot 3.

Oh, and those sub-$100 prices? Those are for Lot 55, which, in detail, go super-fast because they’re actually free.  That’s right, ticket brokers are actually charging you for free passes, but who are we to question the racket – er, process?  More on Lot 55 parking below.

So here’s the thing. While passes for Lots 55 & 3 represent an opportunity to save big on parking, they’re not that easy to find. Consequently, you could find yourself spending lots of time surfing the web. Or, you could save yourself time and money on Patriots parking here. And just how much will you save? How about $133.62 (45.5%) on average, through the first 5 Pats home games of 2021.

Lot 55

Lot 55 parking is free for any Patriots ticket holder, with one caveat – you must vacate within 75 minutes post-game .  This is limited to the designated Delayed Exit Lot, and you must register at the Gillette Stadium website.  Further details can be found here. Needless to say, they go so fast that you may end up paying for one on the secondary market.

In the event that 45% isn’t enough, you can save even more with…

Off-site Gillette Stadium parking

Washington St.

The area surrounding Gillette Stadium is what you’d describe as rustic.  As a result, private parking lots are few and far between.  There are several lots on Washington St.(about a mile away from the stadium) that will cost way more on the secondary market, depending on the game or event. How much more?

Well, a spot at 105 Washington St. will cost you $216 (as of 8/27/23, including fees) at Vivid Seats. Pointedly, you can get the same spot for just 40 bucks here.

Foxborough Terminals

For 50 bucks, Foxborough Terminals is the next best thing to parking at the stadium. It’s about .8 miles away, and tailgating is allowed.

Route 1 Liquor Mart

Route 1 Liquor Mart is the cheapest alternative parking near Gillette Stadium (.7 miles away). Tailgating is permitted, but limited, I believe. Well at least you won’t have far to go if you need to restock on booze.
