Are Chiefs Tickets Worth Your Hard Earned Money?

Prices of Chiefs tickets will rise

How much are Chiefs tickets?

It depends upon the source:

Source SitePriceRank
TicketIQ (Initial average price)$21026
TickPick$20910
SeatGeek$16314
NFLCheapskate (average cheapest price)$15711

So with these figures in mind, is a ticket to a Kansas City Chiefs game worth the price?

Does a bear s*** in the woods? Or, to put it another way,

According to the whitepaper, “Analysis of Consumer Demand for American Sports Leagues”, 2 ‘chief’ factors that influence resale ticket prices are:

  • Team quality, and
  • Player(s) with top 10 jersey sales.

First of all, the Chiefs have won their division the last 4 seasons while averaging 11 wins.. Secondly, Patrick Mahomes’ jersey is the number 2 seller, according to nflshop.com. So yeah, I’d say they have those bases covered.

Of course, there are other things that affect secondary market costs, such as opponent, day of game, and weather.

But based on the aforementioned factors alone, you’d think that prices for Chiefs tickets would be among the top 5. Instead, they’re both an absolute and relative bargain.

In fact, both the real fan cost index ($973) and the relative cost index (19.9%) for Chiefs games in 2017 were just 22nd highest.

What is real fan cost index?

Now for the million-dollar question: How long will it last?

Prices for Chiefs tickets to rise in 2020

Higher prices for Kansas City Chiefs games for 2020? Count on it.

Here are the before & after prices on the secondary market for the last 4 Super Bowl champs without Tom Brady at quarterback:

Those are increases of 79%, 43%, & 37%, respectively. Exactly what the number will be for the 2020 champions is anybody’s guess.  But before you start looking for a second job, know that there is a way to save on Chiefs tickets.

No, you won’t save 79%, or even 37%. Instead, let’s be real… what do you think is a realistic – and significant, amount? 5%? 10%? How about 13%?

To clarify, we compared prices for the cheapest available seats for the 2019 season across 12 major ticket resellers. For 11 of those sites, a cheap seat at a (home) Kansas City Chiefs game averaged $158.39. The average price on the other reseller site* was $137.50 – a difference of 13.19%, or $20.89 per ticket.  For a family of 4, that’s a savings of $83.56. Significant? You’d better believe it.

Save on Arrowhead Stadium parking

Saving 13% on Chiefs tickets is nice, but it’s not enough, is it? After all, you deserve to save more, and you can do it by refining the way you shop for Arrowhead Stadium parking.

So instead of spending another 90 bucks for a Chiefs parking pass, you can try:

  • Standard Parking. There are 15 Standard Parking garages in Kansas City, some as cheap as $6 (pre-purchase rate), but none are within 8 miles of the stadium. So what you do is park there and for an additional $22-$30 (round trip), you can Uber it to Arrowhead. ZTrip has gotten a lot of positive publicity locally, and while it does have its advantages over Uber, price is not one of them – ZTrip cost per mile: $2.25, UberX: 85¢.
  • ParkWhiz. Find guaranteed off-site parking with ParkWhiz at prices that are cheaper than face value. You may have to walk a bit, but in exchange you’ll save 50% – 85%.
  • Select ticket brokers. The ultimate Kansas City Chiefs game day experience begins – and possibly ends – with tailgating. And while some off-site parking sites allow tailgating, it’s that more enjoyable when you’re among 70,000 other crazed fans in the Arrowhead Stadium lot. So as is the case with game tickets, there are some ticket brokers that are cheaper than others. Notably, this reseller’s prices for on-site parking was 22% cheaper in 2019.
