Is NFL+ the best way to stream NFL games?
Look, it’s clearly not for everyone.
But its unique set of features can make it appealing to fans with unique needs. In this, part II of our NFL+ review (Part I covered its features), we’ll help you determine if it’s the right for you.
4 reasons to pass on NFL+
- No live streams. Notably, there are no live regular season or post season games. The only in-progress game broadcasts you’ll get are of the pre-season variety.
- Fantasy Football. If you’re big on fantasy football, you’ll naturally want live updates on your teams or players.
- NFL RedZone. It’s not that you can’t get RedZone with NFL+ – you can. But why would you want to? Given that you’re going to watch full game replays, live scores are the last thing you want to see.
- No need for out of market games. If you live in the same vicinity as your team, you may not need or want access to out of market streams. Ravens fans with Hulu + Live TV, for example can view up to 12 broadcasts this season (8 home, 1 at Washington, + 3 nationally televised).

4 reasons you need NFL+
- Cost. NFL Sunday Ticket is the only other way to get all of the games, but that can cost nearly 4 times as much. Compared to Sunday Ticket, NFL+ can save you up to $3,000 over a 10-year period.
- Time. In addition to being less boring, condensed game replays can save you loads of time. Over the course of 10 games, you’ll gain about 22.5 extra hours, or the near-equivalent of an entire day.
- Watch NFL football year round. Sack those “post-season blues” by streaming NFL games during the off season. Or, instead of watching the mediocre offerings of this past Thanksgiving, you could replay the Rams-Chiefs shootout of 2018 (combined 105 points) as I did.
- Your team sucks. This is also one of the 7 Reasons You Need NFL RedZone, but the take is slightly different here. Truly, this is tailor-made for fans of teams such as the Bengals or Chargers in 2020. That is, even the most loyal fans can’t stomach 60 minutes of losing week after week, so why bother? With Plus, fans of the aforementioned teams can create custom highlight reels of Joe Burrow & Justin Herbert and dream of the future.
Who is NFL+ best suited for?
- Frequent travelers/people who work odd hours. Not everyone gets to stay home on Sundays. For those who can’t be there, NFL Plus means never having to miss another game.
- Parents of newborns/infants. Ideal for you parents of babies and young children who rarely get 3 minutes to themselves, never mind 3 hours. Provided that you can sneak in a 45-minute condensed game at some point, it’s a game changer.
- People who’ve moved. At one time, watching your team on TV after you’ve moved – without NFL Sunday Ticket -simply meant going to a local sports bar. Due to the pandemic, that’s no longer possible, for the most part. Plus allows you to watch all of your favorite team’s games, no matter where you are.
- Those on a budget. For $100 per season, NFL+ is a relative bargain compared to other streaming services.
Price per season | Difference | |
---|---|---|
NFL Sunday Ticket Max | $380 | 74% |
FuboTV w/Sports Plus | $380 ($76 x 5 months) | 74% |
YouTube TV | $325 ($65 x 5 months) | 69% |
AT&T TV Now Plus | $275 ($55 x 5 months) | 64% |
Hulu + Live TV | $275 ($55 x 5 months) | 64% |
SlingTV (Blue + Orange) | $225 ($45 x 5 months) | 56% |
Granted that the vast majority of fans would rather watch live streams, the low cost of Plus makes sense. However, live games aren’t worth anything to those who can’t watch them, as is the case of many within the above categories.

Is NFL+ worth it?
“One man’s trash is another man’s treasure.”
Whereas Plus appeals to fans that watch out of market games solely, there are some who can’t do without live action will scoff. Still, there are those that are on the fence.
So if you’re wondering if it’s worth the price, there is no stock answer here. That is to say, the influencing factors mentioned above carry a different weight, according to your situation.
Namely, if you still think a hundred bucks is a little steep, you’ll be glad to know that the cost of NFL+ lowers as the season progresses:
Preseason through Week 8 → | Week 9 through Week 13 → | Week 14 → Off-season |
$99.99 | $74.99 | $49.99 |
Too much? | 25% off – start catching up on all the games you missed | 50% off – stream games right up until the new season begins |
